Anything goes in a gift basket

I T WAS the gift that nobody wanted.Known for cheese, crackers and sausages, the gift basket had a better chance of making its way into a white elephant gift exchange than under a Christmas tree.

Not anymore.

Now they are works of art.

"We get people that get gift baskets and want to take pictures because they can't believe how beautiful they are," said Chris Moeller, owner of Everything But Flowers in Danville. "It's amazing what can be done with a basket."

At Moeller's store, she will sometimes mix and match products for several weeks before it makes the basket that goes on the shelf.

"You have to consider the shapes of the products, the color of the products and most importantly the quality of the products," Moeller said.

Sometimes, even the baskets themselves need to be changed.

"A lot of times, men don't like the idea of getting baskets, so we need to adapt," Moeller said.

Everything from buckets to sleds to wound-up garden hoses can be used in place of baskets.

One of Moeller's top sellers is the "Thanks a Million" basket that has all its product built around a money theme.(Continue Reading)
