Ideas for travel photography: as image-makers we take shots of all sorts of things—in our hometowns, on our vacations and on special photographic

Before you begin your trip make sure you have arranged the following:

* Research the area you'll be visiting so you will know of the major photographic possibilities (and also things for any non-photographer companions, to keep them busy too.)

* Know the local customs so you will not get into trouble or embarrass yourself.

* Be familiar with your equipment (perhaps it's been a while since this lens or that filter has been used).

* Take spare batteries, extra film and digital cards (and then double it--remember the old travelers' advice: take half the clothes and twice the money !)

* Have a valid passport and visas, if necessary--especially during this time of heightened international security.

* Allow for delays at the airport for border crossings.

* Watch the weather channel so you will know what to expect.

* Arrange for medical checkup and get vaccinations if necessary.

* Check your credit card balances, and check the expiration dates. Find out, from your bank, the daily and total limits on your cards and remember the PIN numbers.(Continue Reading)
